Callaway/Tunley Chair of Music Appeal

Further Information

Act, Belong, Commit to Singing - a Jane Davidson project examining the psychological impact of music on the elderly.

The Sir Frank Callaway Foundation has launched an appeal to raise three million dollars to endow the University's Callaway/Tunley Chair of Music in perpetuity.

Funds raised by the Foundation will be used to enhance the leadership of one of Australia's finest tertiary music schools and ensure that students will be guided by a distinguished person of international stature, great vision and musical ability.

In a state with a rapidly-growing population, the need to grow our cultural capital cannot be understated. By attracting high calibre, dynamic artists to lead and teach our students, we will ensure that our cultural community grows to the benefit of all Western Australians.

In 2006 the School was fortunate to attract Winthrop Professor Jane Davidson, a musician of international standing, enormous talent and boundless energy to the Callaway/Tunley Chair of Music using funds raised by the Callaway Foundation.

Professor Davidson had an immediate impact, introducing new areas of teaching and research such as music and psychology, and the benefits of music to health and wellbeing.
