Keyed Up Concert 1: Eileen Joyce Centenary Celebration
with Piers Lane (UK)

2008 marks the centenary of the birth of Eileen Joyce, one of Australia’s best-loved musicians. UWA Music is delighted to welcome London-based Australian pianist Piers Lane to the Keyed Up! series in a concert celebrating her life. Piers Lane has long taken a keen interest in the life of Eileen Joyce, whose career as a concert pianist took her all over the world and who regularly broadcast for the BBC as well as appearing on several Hollywood soundtracks. Who better to present a concert celebrating the career of Eileen Joyce than an Australian pianist whose flourishing international career echoes her own. Piers Lane was recently a recipient of the ABC Limelight Award for Best Orchestral Performance for a recital he gave with The Queensland Orchestra. In his Keyed Up! recital, he will present a programme of works which Eileen Joyce was known for having played and loved, including some giants of the repertoire arranged by another Australian musical icon, Sir Percy Grainger.
