A series of four piano recitals is held in the Octagon Theatre and Winthrop Hall.

2010 is the bicentenary of the births of Robert Schumann and Frédéric Chopin, two composers to whom Piers feels a close affinity.
This program explores early Schumann, full of fantasy and passion, and mature Chopin - noble, sorrowful and serenely dreamy.
Friday 9 April, 2010. 7.30pm. Octagon Theatre
University Organist Annette Goerke, who studied with Marie-Claire Alain in Paris, is one of Australia’s finest exponents of French organ music, particularly the works of Olivier Messiaen.
Hear the magnificent newly-refurbished McGillivray organ in a program to include works by Franck, Mulet, Alain, Duruflé plus a good dash of Messiaen.
Sunday 4 July, 2010. 5pm. Winthrop Hall
This piano recital features virtuosic repertoire inspired by Spanish folklore and flamenco created by iconic Spanish composers such as Manuel de Falla, Isaac Albeniz and Enrique Granados.
The progam embarks on a journey to regional Spain and explores the kaleidoscope of local cultures and identities. Zen Zeng transports the audience into an intimate Spanish tablao where the arresting sounds of castanets call for swirling dresses and the electrifying rhythms of cajón heat up fearless flamenco footwork.

Finnish pianist Paavali Jumppanen gives solo recitals across the globe, performing in the prominent concert halls of Paris, New York, Vienna and London.
This recital illustrates his intimate understanding and admiration of a variety of piano repertoire. Prepare to be captivated by this performance of some of Beethoven’s, Mozart’s and Finnish composer Jouni Kaipainen’s majestic piano works.
