Our researchers in music education are well-known for their
publications in leading journals such as International
Journal of Music Education, Journal of Research in Music
Education, British Journal of Music Education,
Music Education Research and Research Studies in
Music Education.
Colleagues have contributed to discussions in various
international conferences and symposia ranging from International
Society of Music Education biennial conferences to the European
Conference on Musical Development, as well as having a large role
to play in the Australian Society of Music Education Annual
Conference in Perth in 2007.
Our researchers are also active in policy and curriculum
developments, all having participated in national and
international discussions about school curricula.
Assistant Professor Nicholas
Bannan has been researching an innovative pedagogy for aural
discrimination and musicianship, as well as examining vocal
training and development in children.
Research Assistant Professor Robert
Faulkner has been investigating children’s composing in
the classroom and also peer teaching in a schools-based world
music performance project.
Associate Professor Peter Moore
has spent many years conducting the West Australian Youth
Orchestra and developing Babies Proms for the Singapore
Symphony Orchestra, and researching training techniques.

Assistant Professors Nicholas Bannan, Jonathan McIntosh and Robert Faulkner have run
ensembles to examine the research-teaching and community
