Research Fields
Since its inception in 1953 and under the guidance of its founder Sir Frank Callaway and his successor Emeritus Professor David Tunley, research at the School of Music has enjoyed an international profile in the areas of music education, historical musicology, composition and performance practice. With the appointment of international scholar Winthrop Professor Jane Davidson to the Callaway/Tunley Chair of Music, research interests have expanded to include how music is examined as a social science through the study of the psychology of music, music sociology and cultural studies, music and health, music medicine, music and evolution, social anthropology of music and ethnomusicology.
