She plays a wide range of music from the eighteenth century to the present day, making particular specialisation of the virtuosic music of Liszt and Alkan and of demanding contemporary scores. Stephanie's most recent release is a disc of Beethoven's complete Bagatelles, recorded for ABC Classics in 2008, and released to critical acclaim. UWA School of Music is very pleased to welcome Stephanie back to the Keyed Up! recital series in 2009. Keyed Up! Humperdinck: Parsifal Australian-born Simone Young is internationally recognised as one of the leading conductors of her generation. Currently Music Director of the Hamburg State Opera and the Philharmonic State Orchestra Hamburg, she has performed on some of the world's greatest stages. In this very special Keyed Up! concert performance, Simone Young will be joined onstage by Alex Soddy in a performance of Englebert Humperdinck's four-hands piano arrangement of Richard Wagner's opera, Parsifal. With narration in German and English, twelve short movements are brought to life by passages of text from the opera. Keyed Up! Concert 3: Suzanna HlinkaSunday 30th August 5pm Octagon Theatre, University of Western Australia Vorisek: Fantasie Op. 12; Direr: Valse Mignonne Op. 6; Vine: Sonata No. 3; Harvey: Pink Nautilus; Grieg: 4 Piano Pieces Op. 1; Grainger: Colonial Song, Country Gardens; Suk: Love Song Op. 7 No. 1; Vine: Rash Born in Sydney in 1984, Suzanna Hlinka is one of Australia's most exciting young pianists, having been described by Australia's Courier Mail as "a prodigious talent". Currently residing in the Czech Republic, she has been a prizewinner at the Praga International Radio Competition for Young Musicians and the Rudolph Firkunsy International Piano Competition in Prague, amongst others. Following her acclaimed 2008 Keyed Up! recital performance, UWA Music is delighted to welcome Suzanna back to the Keyed Up! series in 2009. Keyed Up! Concert 4: Marc-Andre HamelinSunday 27th September 5pm Octagon Theatre, University of Western Australia Berg: Sonata Op. 1; Liszt: Sonata in B minor; Debussy: Preludes, book 2 (excerpts); Hamelin: Twelve Etudes in All the Minor Keys (excerpts) French-Canadian pianist Marc-Andre Hamelin's startlingly original blend of musicianship and virtuosity has earned him legendary status as a true avatar of the piano. Long known for his matchless exploration of unfamiliar pianistic terrain, he is now recognised worldwide for the orginality and technical brilliance of his performances of the classic repertoire.
